Letter to Masters and Combined Degree Students: Spring 2023

Dear TSPPPA Masters and Combined Degree Students,

It’s been very exciting to welcome all of you to campus for the Fall 2022 semester! We hope that you had a refreshing fall break to get away, at least from classes, and recharge for the rest of the semester.
Spring 2023 registration is quickly approaching. Below is some advice to help you with registration and course selection.

Spring 2023 registration began on Thursday, November 10th at 9:00am. You are welcome and encouraged to take courses throughout the university (including off campus and online) and the consortium. As long as courses are at the master’s level (6000 or above at GW) and also relevant to public policy/administration, they will at least count as elective or field credits. If you have questions about specific courses, please contact your core advisor, the relevant field advisor, or program director (Peter Linquiti or Rachel Emas for ENRP students and Anil Nathan for MPA/MPP and combined degree students)

• If any PPPA courses are full or require permission (i.e. PPPA 8022 for masters students and all courses for combined degree students) and you would like to be placed on a list, please fill out the PPPA course registration waitlist and permission form. The program director and instructor will receive this information. Please do not contact the instructors directly to get permission.
• Some non-PPPA courses require instructor or department permission to register. Usually, the best way to get this permission is to email the course instructor an RTF-EZ form to sign, and then send it to the registrar (a notable exception is the Milken School, which has it’s own registration procedures). If you are having issues registering for non-PPPA courses and cannot find the proper point of contact in those departments, please contact the TSPPPA lead student services coordinator, Gregory Nelson, for additional help.
TSPPPA Summer 2023 course offerings (TENTATIVE) will be posted in the weekly Tberg Skim. Continue to review the Skim for important registration information and updates.
• Other Summer 2023 courses throughout the University are not available yet, but you can view past summer offerings to get an idea of what could be offered.
• Review our website for information on program requirements, advising, and field course options, as well as the most recent masters students handbook.
• Check your DegreeMap to make sure you are on track with your program requirements. If you have waived any classes that are not reflected in DegreeMap, please contact your program director as soon as possible.
• MPA and MPP students should declare your field of study as soon as you have decided using the field of study declaration form. You can change your field at any time by simply completing the form again. Please feel free to contact a field advisor for help in choosing field classes.
• Check the advising website for more tips as well as contact info for core and field advisors to help in your academic planning.

Please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions or concerns. We all wish you good health and a strong finish to the spring semester.

Sincerely,
Your Program Directors and Core Advising Team
